The High-Energy Dry Observatory (HE-DYO) is a payload within the 30 KISS mission. HE-DYO will be delivered by a dedicated satellite (Astral-LEOS) towards the L2 orbit. HE-DYO addresses the science theme "The sources of the diffuse cosmic background radiation". HE-DYO is based on a novel observing approach, combining a High-Energy Detector (HET) and an X-ray Coronas Spectrometer (XCS), which will observe the sky in the hard X-ray (20 keV) range. The instruments will combine with each other the sensitivity (40 mCrab in 10 ks), the angular resolution (0.125 arcmin), the duty cycle (75 %), the telescope following, the wide-field (5 arcmin square) and the imaging capability (50 %). HE-DYO will be the second-ever satellite in this scientific category. He-DYO will be placed in a near-polar orbit, at a 500 km altitude, while the previous satellite, HE-SAXO, is at a lower altitude, at 430 km altitude. This higher altitude and the polar orbit will permit to observe the South region with better efficiency.


Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) is developing a cost-competitive expendable launch service that will make spaceflight more accessible and integrate with global air, ocean, and ground transport networks. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle and Dragon spacecraft are designed to land on a specially adapted ocean platform, thus obviating the need for large and expensive recovery ships positioned a long distance from a launch site. SpaceX currently provides launch services on an approximately monthly cadence from United Launch Alliance, a partnership between Boeing and Lockheed Martin, and launches a variety of payloads from ULA’s Eastern and Western coast facilities in Florida, and at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
