The outfits of the 6 commandos have been toned down a little compared to the ones they had in the past, with some changes in armour and weapons to keep things fresh. Consequently, players will struggle to immediately recognise the outfits of their comrades and feel a little less familiar of their place in the game. Even the opening cinematic has been replaced with a very similar one taken from the first of the series, as opposed to the much more coherent tales of the others. This might be a tad disconcerting for old fans.

Right-clicking does a number of different things, including running with a limp and firing grenades, running without a limp, pick up and throw items or hit a commando for helpful tips. In combat yourself, the mouse controls just as you'd expect. Even the multiplayer functions have been revamped, although the lack of online leaderboards and plunkdown requirements doesn't make much difference to the core experience.

All the series' evocative, old-fashioned pace seems to have been present and correct in using intricate, city-based levels, an array of subtly varying and dangerous destruction to mow through. Overall, I'm quite taken with the versatile weapons - visible and useful even outside of combat - and the intriguing level design. Although I still feel as though the way the mission briefing is presented could be much improved.

Other than the maddeningly simple and standard multiplayer and split-screen modes, Dynamic Missions return, though this time they're only single-player in addition to co-op, which mostly function as minor distractions from the core action.

Destination Berlin is certainly one of the most attractive and technically polished 3D platformers on the PC today. Looking back to the days when this series peaked, I can see why General Chaos continued it, so fans of the genre have something to play. d2c66b5586
